Ford Repair: 95 Sable 3.0L engine, proper diagnosis, oil leak

Question
Hi, I am trying to find an oil leak on this engine. It is coming from the backside, higher than the oil pan, and lower than the valve cover. It is very cramped back there and next to impossible to see. I was told that this engine has a secondary oil pan/reservoir somewhere on the backside of the engine. I was told that the engine would have to be pulled to replace the gasket on it. I have looked in my repair manual for this car and it says nothing about it. Can you explain this to me, or tell me where I could find more info about it.
Thanks

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
As far as I know, the 3.0L engine hasn't changed much. If you are having a problem locating the oil leak, I would suggest that you go to your local parts store and invest in buying or renting a black light as well as the dye that is added to your oil system. You'll then need to add the dye to the engine oil and run the vehicle for a while. After this is done, the black light is used to locate the oil leak and a proper diagnosis can be made from there as to what is needed to be replaced or repaired.
Hope this helps,
Erik
