Ford Repair: 1999 Ford Explorer XLT noises, ford explorer xlt, rough sound

Question
2 questions:

1.  At November 2004 inspection, shop mentioned that the "rear was getting noisy".  Don't know what that might mean or who to take this problem to.  Any advice?

2.  Belts started squealing around same time.  Shop told me belts were fine. Now squealing like a banshee at startup and while driving.  Any advice as to which belts might need to be checked/replaced?

Vehicle has 84,000 miles on it.

Thanks,
D Sheaffer

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I would take the vehicle to a known good repair shop and explain to them what the garage told you.
Being that this is the internet, I can't diagnose a noise.
As far as the belt noise goes..........remove the belt and check ALL of the pulleys......Alt., Power Steering, A/C, Water Pump. If there is grumbling or they make a rough sound while turing them, they need to be replaced.
Hope this helps,
Erik
