Ford Repair: power steering, high pressure hose, power steering pump

Question
I have blown the high pressure hose on my power steering pump.I need to know how long can i run the pump with no oil( to get it to a garage ) and do you have to bleed the pump after you replace the hose and  fill with oil.It is an 2001 f250 5.4 litre . My ford dealer said it should be ok for the 10 minute ride .I just didn't like his uncertainty when he gave his answer..thanx E.D.S

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I wouldn't suggest driving it at ALL. Besides being a danger to the pump because the fluid is used as the pumps lubricant, it is also a fire danger. If fluid sprays on the exhaust manifold, it can ignite. My suggestion to you, is have it towed.
Hope this helps,
Erik
