Ford Repair: Kick back rod, mustang grande, carbuerator

Question
I have a 1971 ford mustang grande and wanted to know what the symtoms would be if my kick back rod fell of my car.  It has a 302 with a c4 transmission.

If you are referring to the one on the transmission, it will not shift correctly, will not shift out of first gear easily.
