Ford Repair: replace fuel pump, 1973 grand torino, outlet pipes

Question
how difficult is it to replace 1973 grand torino 351 cleveland fuel pump? thanks bruce

Answer
Bruce,

Not hard at all! remove the inlet and outlet pipes at the pump and plug the ends to stop fuel loss, or dirt from finding its way into the system, Undo and remove the 2 bolts and spring washers that secure the pump to the front cover. Lift away fuel pump and gasket. Installation of pump is the reverse of removal with the addition of the following: a) tighten pump bolts to specifified torque, b)before reconnecting the pipe from the fuel tank to the pump inlet, move the end to a position lower than the fuel tank so that fuel can syphon out, quickly connect the pipe to the pump inlet and c) disconnect the pip at the carbuerator and turn the engine over until gas issues from the open end. Quickly connect the pipe to the carbuerator union. This last action will help to prime the pump.

Hope that this helps and if you need further assistance, so not hesitate to contact me. Good luck.
