Ford Repair: RE: Overheating 1997 Ford Tauras GL 3.0, ford tauras, circulation problem

Question
Hello James,
I have a problem.  My car has been overheating and nobody can give me a straight answer.  I have a 97 Ford Tauras GL 3.0.  When the car is idle or parked, the car heats ups.  I took it to a repair shop.  They preformed a pressure test and first said it was a bad thermostat and replaced it and did a coolant flush.  They said the problem was fixed but it happened again the same day I picked up the car.  The repair shop rechecked the thermostat and said it didn't show any signs when they performed the pressure test.  They said it was a circulation problem that could be the heater coil, water pump, or radiator.  I spent over $300 for a diagonis that they said is now on a step by step process.  Note:  I also found out that when the car was idle and hot, I can rev up the car and the temp. will cool off.  Note:  The repair shop saids there is no leaks and the head gasket is fine.  Can you help me.

Answer
Raymond,
When the vehicle is cool remove the radiator cap, run the vehicle at idel, untill its warm, and look into the coolant filler neck. If the water pump is working you will notice the coolant circulating.
2. Also when the vehicle is at idel, and hot make sure your cooling fan comes on. If it doesnt either the motor is bad, or a fuse or relay could be bad.
3. If your heater coil/heater core was plugged you wouldnt get any heat in the vehicle.
4. If your ignition timing is off, this will also make your vehicle overheat.
5. Make sure your radiator is clear of dirt ect ect.
If your cooling system was plugged that problem would of been fixed with a coolant flush.
I would check these areas out, and I wouldnt bring the vehicle back to those no brainers.. Hope this helps you... Ty
