Ford Repair: 92 2wd Aerostar 3.0Liter v6 transmission, torque converter clutch, torque converter clutch solenoid

Question
My daughter's 3.0 liter 1992 Ford Aerostar with auto transmission just quit moving. Motor running good.  I took tranmission apart and I want to understand what the two solenoids inside the transmission that I see when pan is removed. Electrical wires go to them.  Would these solenoids make this car quit running.  Transmission is blackish brown as though someone put oil in it.  Can you help me.  I plan on changing transmission oil after draining it and mixing transmission rejuvenating oil with it. Can you help me? Marilyn

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
The two solenoids that you see are the Torque Converter Clutch solenoid and the 3-4 shift solenoid. These solenoids would not make her vehicle not move.
I hate to say this BUT---it sounds like the transmission needs a complete over haul. The A4LD transmission is needing it, quite often.
I would suggest that you bring it to a transmission shop or the local Ford dealership.
Hope this helps,
Erik
