Ford Repair: 95 Explorer 4.0 engine noise, camshaft position sensor, coil pack

Question
Hello Erik,
I have a noise(very loud/comes and goes) in the engine, top, right, back corner. I think it has something to do with sending the spark to the correct spark plug. It replaces the old distributer. What is it called and what is involved in replacing it? 135,000 Miles on engine.
Thank You,
Harold

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I've never heard of a noise coming from the ignition coil pack, if this is what you are talking about. You might be talking about the Camshaft Position Sensor, which is mounted in the hole that the distributor and oil drive gear were in. If not, I would look more in to a collapsed lifter, or oil deprived rocker arm/broken rocker arm shaft.
Hope this helps,
Erik
