Ford Repair: Ford Expedition Interior Lighting, interior lighting, ford dealership

Question
I have a '97 Expedition (4.6 V8, auto).  Lately, the interior lights and the running board lights take very long to time out or do not turn off at all when entering and exiting the vehicle.  The door ajar light on the dash stays lit too but there are no doors open or slightly open.  As a result I had to pull the fuse for the interior lighting.  Any idea what is causing this?  Thanks.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
It sounds like the GEM (generic electronic module) has gone south. The GEM controlls everything electric, with the exception of engine/transmission management.
Your best be is to go to a Ford dealership and have them check the computer system for fault codes, and see what the GEM is doing/not doing.
Hope this helps,
Erik
