Ford Repair: 2003 Mustang GT 4.6 2v, max horsepower, power capabilities

Question
I was wondering if the 4.6 2v SOHC 2003 Mustang GT engine has a "Knock Protector" ? Also what is the max horsepower I can do without engine overhaul.( can the rods handle 400hp ). Also the manual says to use 87 octane, but I live @ 4000+ feet above sea level. What should I use ?
Thank you for your time on this matter.

I'm fairly sure the GTs haven a knock detector...but I don't know about a protector.  As far as power capabilities go, it depends on the kind of power you're making.  In any event, I'd set the max power limit of stock rods and pistons at about 450hp so long as the engine is in good tune and you're not using a ton of nitrous to get that number.  Technically you can still use the 87 octane at 4000ft, but I would probably switch to 89 octane (or the closest to that number available in your area) to prevent knocks from the thinner air.  Hope this helps.
