Ford Repair: headers and exhaust, major tools, market applications

Question
i just bought a 1988 ford t-bird with a 302 5.0 liter engine with an automatic trans. i would like to upgrade my car with a pair of new headers and an exhaust system. i have had a lot of trouble finding headers made for my car and im also not sure what the difference would be from choosing shorty headers or the other kind. im trying to find headers and an exhaust for a fairly low price, 300 max for the set of headers and 500-600 for the complete exhaust cats and all. first off, do you have any headers or exhaust systems to recommend? this is my first time doing this kind of work to a car so im looking for something fairly easy to assemble without the use of major tools or accessories. i would also like to know if i would also have to upgrade my fuel injectors at all, im not sure why i would have to but it makes sense to cover all my bases. and i also dont know how to determine what o2 sensor to buy for the new headers, one wire, two wire, 3 wire....i dont know the difference. if you can please email me back with as much possible information as you cani would greatly appreciate it for anything i can learn about this would make the journey from turning this car from a puppy into a beast more bearable. thank you very much for your tim and help. ron

Answer
Hi and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
The BEST piece of advice I can give you is DON'T.
If you insist on doing this-you are looking way above 300.00 for the headers and 500.00 for the cats. Not to mention the O2 sensor that will run about 50-100 bucks. Not to mention the ignition wires that WILL be needing a special covering to protect them from the heat the headers will create.
I'll give you the information and places to get the stuff, but I would suggest you do other things, such as a PCM upgrade and keeping the vehicle in good tune up condition, before tackling the exhaust.

Try www.jegs.com
Try www.summitracing.com

These are the two that are the best for after market applications............but watch out-it WILL COST YOU! No way around it.
Like I said before--try a processor upgrade or chip upgarde.
Hope this helps,
Erik
