Ford Repair: rear disc brake conversion, rear disc brakes, disc brake conversion

Question
I have a 74 bronco with a 9"large bearing axle. Is there a bolt on dics brake conversion, that I could get the parts at a junk yard? I would like to have E-brake capability.

Answer
The 1970's Lincoln Versailles and Ford Granada came with a 9-inch rear axle with factory rear disc brakes.  This is a popular swap for Mustang owners, so it might take a lot of searching to find one.  Most junk yards also know about the benefits of this axle, and charge customers accordingly.  If you do find a used axle, you would probably have to rebuild it and change the ring and pinion gear, the older axles came with high ratios.  It might be cheaper to find an aftermarket conversion kit on eBay.

I hope this helps,
