Ford Repair: transmission problems with 95 taurus models,,3.0L, ford taurus, transmission problems

Question
i recently bought a 95 ford taurus from a mechanic who had told me this car could handle anything,,,i should have listened to my gut feeling about buying a ford since i had been told in the past that the majority of ford taurus have transmission problems. he assured me that the problem had been fixed with the 94 models and that the 95 models were tip top,,,anyways,,now i have noticed that the car jerks like crazy when i start accelerating from a complete stop or up an incline,,,and i noticed now that it is leaking transmission fluid,,,,so now im really upset for buying this car,,,,,my question is ,how much of the transmission is salvagable?,,,do i have to get a whole new transmission?,,,i figure since it still drives steadily on the freeway can it be taken care of with a fixer upper on the transmission itself?,,or is it just a matter of time now before i get stranded?

Answer
Having low transmission fluid can cause the transmission to go in-and-out of gear while driving.  I would check the fluid, top it off if necessary, and retest the vehicle.  If the problem goes away, fix the leak as soon as possible.  If the transmission is developing internal problems, the transmission would have to be removed from the vehicle and disassembled, each part would have to be inspected.  The transmission would then be reassembled, replacing any bad or marginally-bad parts.  Installing a re-manufactured transmission may be a little more expensive, but have a better warranty.

I hope this helps,
