Ford Repair: Blinkers and gas guage, fuel level sender, fuel gauge

Question
I have 1997 Ford Ranger 3.0 engine.
The blinkers will only work when the steering wheel is in a certain  spot. The gas guage will only work after you drive the truck for several hours.

Any suggestion on getting this fixed! Or is it just not worth the trouble.

Answer
The blinker problem might be caused by a bad Multi-function Switch (turn signal lever).  This is how the switch was designed to operate, and is a common complaint with most Ford vehicles (including mine).  If your blinkers work when the steering wheel is centered; I wouldn't attempt a repair, unless your switch is wearing out.  It may not be much better after the switch has been replaced.  The Fuel Gauge and Anti-slosh Module are built into the Instrument Cluster, unless there is a loose connection in the single wire that connects the Cluster to the Fuel Level Sender, or its ground, I would guess that the Cluster needs to be replaced.  This could cost several hundred dollars to repair.

I hope this helps,
Dave
