Ford Repair: Directional signals, ford ranger edge, directional signals

Question
I have a 2004 Ford Ranger Edge, 3.0 V6. My directionals, both left and right, operate sporatically. When I initially try to use them they will operate, then stop blinking and go solid in a matter of seconds. If I try to turn them off and put them back on, they remain on solid. All bulbs are good and my emergency flashers work perfectly. I looked in my owners manual and didn't see a flasher anywhere. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer
I would guess that the multi-function (turn signal lever) switch is bad, or a wire is loose in the connector that plugs into it; both of these are common problems.  If a wire is loose in the connector, occasionally you can move the tilt steering wheel to the full-up position while the signals are on, and they will start to work again.

I hope this helps,
Dave
