Ford Repair: Cruise Control Lights on the Steering Wheel, eddie bauer, ford f150

Question
I have a '97 Ford F150 XL 4x4 with a 4.6L.  The cruise control lights on the steering wheel stopped working.  Both of them stopped at the same time.  So I am guessing it is not the bulbs but I haven't checked out anything yet.  I was at a dealer yesterday and the mechanic told me I don't have cruise control light.  That pissed me off because I know I do!  How do I get off the cruise control buttons?  Do they just pry off?  Would you have a schematic or a wiring diagram I could trace?  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Joseph Warwaruk

Answer
Power is supplied to all instrument illumination on a Light Brown/Red wire and grounds on a Black wire.  The wires for the speed control switch lights go through the clockspring assembly.  The bulbs are not serviceable.  If the bulbs are bad, the switches must be replaced.  Some vehicles in the same model line don't have lights in the switches.  Usually, only vehicles with a higher trim level have them, like "XLT", "Limited", or "Eddie Bauer".

I hope this helps,
Dave
