Ford Repair: C4 flex plate installation, napa auto parts, napa auto parts store

Question
I have a 1977 Ford Bronco with a 302 and a C4 transmission.  The Bronco has been disassembled for some time and I have a question regarding the installation of the flex plate.

How do you install the flex plate and insure the balance is correct?

There is a balance weight on the flex plate, but the mounting holes in the crankshaft look symmetrical and would allow installation in any orientation.  There is a mark or stain from the dowel pin hole in the end of the crankshaft, but I do not necessarily trust the flex plate was installed correctly by the previous owner.

Thanks
Tony

Answer
Mr. Pepe,

I will try to explain this to you the very best that I can but i am strongly recommending that you go to your local Auto Zone, Advanced Auto or Napa Auto Parts store and purchase yourself a Haynes Manual for the year and make of your vehicle to assist you in this.

The flex plate (engine drive plate) is installed after the torque converter is installed and engaged. You need to position the stud mount directly at the bottom of the bell housing to ease the alingment. Hope that this helps and I apologize for the delay in response. Unfortunately I had computer failure which has now been corrected.

Good luck.
