Ford Repair: Oil, ford dealership, excess oil

Question
What effect does putting a quart too much oil into a 3.0 liter 2004 Ford? It did effect the engine running, but could there be permanent damage? The Ford dealership did the change.

Answer
Dale-

Generally the effects are minimal.  Most of the time the excess oil will burn off in the engine.  It'll smoke like hell for a few days while the oil burns away and will usually go back to normal.  I don't really see any long term damage...but anything's possible I suppose.  Hope this helps.
