Ford Repair: Do I need a new transmission?, transmission clutches, transmission specialist

Hi Patrick,

I have a 99 explorer limited edition SOHC v6.  i am a little over
105k miles and i'm starting to experience some gear slipping.  It
has trouble moving form 1st to 2nd gear.  I have to release the
accelerator and do it a again for it to shift.  Can you please help
me?

There is a very slim chance that you will need a whole new transmission.  The most common cause for your concern would be a torn valve body separator plate.  If the plate has been torn for too long though, it may have damaged the clutches inside the transmission.  Clutches have only been necessary in a very small number of the vehicles.

Your best bet is to have a transmission specialist inspect the vehicle and properly diagnose and repair the concern.  If only the separator plate has been damaged repairs should run in between $500-$700 dollars.
