Ford Repair: transmission, dodge grand caravan, quaker state

Question
Patrick:
I have a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan (3.3Liter engine). My question is of a general nature so I hope you can help.
I plan to change the transmission filter and fluid on my vehicle. What can I do to get all of the transmission fluid out, not just what is in the pan?  I read somewhere that one could take a line loose that goes to the radiator and run the vehicle for about five minutes to get most of the fluid out. Is this applicable to my vehicle?
Secondly, my owners manual calls for Mopar 9206 +4 transmission fluid. The only after-market fluid I found is +3 (Quaker State). Is there a difference? Can I use +3 tranny fluid or do I need +4? Thanks in advance! Larry.

Answer
Larry,

I'd hate to run that transmission after the fluid was removed from the pan.  There is a good chance you could burn the frictions inside.  You could use a vacuum pump to remove the fluid from the lines.  As for the fluid, I would only use the mopar fluid suggested for the vehicle so as not to damage the internals.
