Ford Repair: gauges, oil pressure gauge, oil pressure sending unit

Question
2001 explorer V6 (XLT)-- The check gauge light is on for a few minutes after starting the engine. It is referring to the oil pressure gauge which is registering 0.  After a few minutes the oil pressure gauge registers where is should be. There is oil in car and it sounds like there is oil pressure, since nothing is rattling. Do you think this is the engine sensor and if so where is it located.  I hopefully can change it myself.

Answer
This is a common problem for Explorers.  Yes, the Oil Pressure Sending Unit is bad. It is a very simple repair.  I believe the sensor is on the right side of the engine block, with a Dark Green/White wire connected to it.  It may require a special socket to remove.

I hope this helps,
