Ford Repair: Taurus Transmission Linkage, shift linkage, sheathed cable

Question
I have a 1995 Taurus SW (3.8L automatic) which may wife was driving when the shift linkage appeared to fail.  The transmission would not respond to movements (between Park/Reverse/Neutral/drive-1 or 2) of the shifter, fortunitly leaving the can stuck in neutral.  My questions are twofold.
1) Were there any recalls for linkage failure?
2) How difficullt is this to repair?

Answer
Stan:

There are no recalls that apply to your current concern, as for the repair: from the shifter mechanism in the steering column or console there is a sheathed cable that runs to the top of the transmission.  Basic hand tools and the ability to route the cable are necessary to replace.
