Ford Repair: Engine cuts out and sometimes dies, mass airflow sensor, gargage

Question
In the last 8 months I have had my 98 Ford Explorer in the garage to be fixed 4 times.  It will cut out terrible when 1st accelerating or may even die.  It doesn't matter whether it is cold or hot.  This will go on for a couple of days then drive perfect for another month or two.  I have taken it to the garage only for them to get in and it drives perfect.  2 months ago the garage did replace sensors - $350.00 worth.  Yesterday when I took it and parked at the gargage it was terrible.  I went this am to leave the key - took it for a drive with the mechanic - it ran perfect.  I would love to get this fixed.  Have any suggestions?     Thank you very much .

Answer
Chuck:

Your concern could be caused by a number of different items, anything from a vacuum or intake manifold leak to and idles speed control motor or mass airflow sensor.  Without knowing what sensors were replaced earlier all I can provide are possibilities.  I'll be happy to provide better guesses with more info.
