Ford Repair: Steering Box Adjustment, ball joints, nut and bolt

Question
I need to know how to adjust the steering box using nut and bolt on top to remove play from a 1994 Ford Ranger. I have replaced all tie rod parts and it still has bad wandering. Can the ball joints be the problem? If so how can I check it to see? Can you please respond to this and help me as soon as you can?  Thank You

Answer
Hi Paul,
The ball joints could be the problem. Lift the front wheels off the ground slightly and put a large pry bar or wood handle under the center of the wheel and move it up and down, Any movement in the ball joints is bad and should be replaced. The steering gear can be adjusted by loostening the nut (16mm) and turning it clockwise 1/4 tun at a time until it feels good to you. If you make a turn and the steering doesn't return, it's too tight. If it's still too loose, you may need a new steering gear.
GOOD LUCK.
