Ford Repair: 1991 ford taurus transmission, ford taurus, taurus 3

I am the unlucky owner of a 1991 ford taurus 3.0 liter V6 station wagon.  At 64,000 miles, the transmission will not engage into any gear.  I can shift into every gear easily, but they do not engage.  I know this is a common problem in this car, do you think it is the transmission or could it possibly be an easy fix?  Thank-you in advance for your thoughts.

All odds point to internal transmission difficulty,  If you look at the top of the transmission just to the left of the engine when looking from front bumper area, ensure that the cable is still attached to the shift shaft into the transmission.  Sorry about the bad news
