Ford Repair: 1995 ford explorer blower motor, blower motor resistor, blower fan

Question
Hi,
I have had problems with the blower fan on my 1995 Ford Explorer either not working at all or only some speeds. Now it is not working at all again..the interior fuse inside the cockpit checks okay but I do seem to be getting voltage at the blower fan itself. I believe there may be some other relays or fuses connected in the circuit that may be the issue. Thanks.

Answer
This vehicle has a Blower Motor Resistor which controls the different speeds.  It also has a Blower Motor Switch, a Blower Motor Relay, and may have a High Speed Relay.  If the Blower Motor stops working on some speeds but not others, I would guess that the Resistor is bad.  It is not uncommon to replace the Motor and the Resistor.  The Motor starts drawing too much current and burns out the Resistor.  I would start by swapping the relays with known-good ones for testing.  They are in the Auxiliary Relay Box #2.  The owners manual should show a diagram and location of the box, it is probably under the hood by the drivers fender and show relay locations under the lid.

I hope this helps,
Dave
