Ford Repair: 96 Ford Contour clutch, ford contour, clutch

My 96 ford contour has a lot of trouble locking into gear when I shift. A new clutch is very spendy and I was wondering what the options are. I noticed that when I hold the shifter it is fine can you help?


Answer
The clutch may be bad if you have trouble getting the shifter into gear. If you have to hold the shifter in gear or it pops out, there is probably something wrong inside of the transmission.  The labor involved in removing and repairing this transmission is high.  I believe the engine and trans have to be removed for servicing.  I don't think that there is an easy fix for this vehicle.  Sorry.
