Ford Repair: airbag light, radiator support, crash sensor

Question
I have a 1994 ford escort and the airbag light on the dash comes on and sometimes stays on. The bag has never been deployed. Could it be a censor? If so where is it located.

Answer
The Air Bag Light flashing or staying on indicates a problem in the Air Bag System.  It could be a Sensor, Module, or wiring problem. I believe the Crash Sensor is bolted the the Radiator Support of this vehicle.  The Module could be the problem and is under the front of the center console.  There was a Recall on the Module on vehicles built between 9/22/94 and 10/15/94 and at the Hermosillo Assembly Plant.  I would check with a local Ford Dealer, they can check the Vehicle Identification Number and see if this vehicle was effected.

When the Air Bag Light is on or flashing, your Air Bags DO NOT work in an accident.

I hope this helps,
Dave
