Ford Repair: Explorers automatic headlights, ford explorer sport, first ford

Question
I recently purchased a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport. Everything works ok but the headlights turn on by themselves once the sun goes down or if I'm in an enclosed space (Car Wash, Garage, etc.) and stay on for about 2 min. after the key is removed from the ignition. This is my first Ford and the owner's manual was of no help. Is this "automatic light" thing common or do I have some sort of short somewhere in my wiring?

Answer
Greg-

Don't worry...it's supposed to do that.  That's the "automatic" part of it.  Basically the lights turn on and off with the help of a light sensor on the dash.  Then they'll shut themselves off after the car has been off for a preset amount of time.  It's a little annoying and a little hard to get used to, but it's normal.  Hope this helps.
