Ford Repair: check engine light, o2 sensor, scan tool

Question
My check engine light has been on for 3 yrs!  came on 1 day after tune up at dealer. Has been checked and turned off 3 times - non-specific diagnosis (last one said "slow response"). The last 2 times it came back on during interstate driving when I got to 65-70mph. I would like to know how I can turn this off myself if that is possible to see if this is consistent or not.  Otherwise, the car has always run fine. It is a 1996 Ford Explorer 6 cylinder.

thanks.

Answer
Chris,

The only way you can turn your check engine light off is if you have a scan tool. However, if the vehicle is running well with no problems, I would not worry about it as it could possibly have a bad O2 sensor or a bad check engine sensor. Hope that this helps and if you need further assitance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck.
