Ford Repair: 95 f150 wont turn over, ford f150, ford

Question
I just parked my 95 Ford f150 6cyld. 4.9L, and now I can't seem to get the thing started again. When I turn over the key, there is a fast loud clanking sound repeated untill i let of the ignition switch.  After I let off the ignition switch there is no lights.  I push the switch back to its original position, to take out the key, and the lights turn back on.  The lights dont go off untill I try and turn over the motor.  While its trying to turn over, the positive terminal on the battery smokes, and after I try and turn it over, it become warm.  Any ideas?  The motor isn't turning at all.

Answer
It sounds like your starter is bad.  The clanking sound is probably the starter, and the battery terminal smoking and getting hot is because the starter is drawing too much current.  The starter is using all of the power that the battery has.

I hope this helps,
Dave
