Ford Repair: Ford van w/302 engine, mechanical linkage, ken hope

 Hi Ken; Hope you can shed some light on this old 86 Ford van with 302 engine. Problem is that at times the engine revs up at high speed with out my accelerating the foot feed. It did this on me about month ago now is doing it again. Does not seem to be mechanical linkage trouble. Your wisdom would be much appreciated.  Thanks, Clare

You did not say whether this vehicle is carburated or fuel injected, as they switched from carburetors to fuel injection mid year. If it is fuel injected, I would check the IAC (idle air control), as that will cause the vehicle to do as you are saying. Also, have the throttle body cleaned. Hope that this helps. Good luck.
