Question -
I have a 98 ford explorer 4.0 SOHC 4wd with 140,000. I will be changing the front brakes and rotors .   Would you suggest going with aftermarket, i.e Bendix's brakes and rotors or go with fords?

I have 140,000 miles should I change the brake line?  When should the calipers be changed? If I should get new calipers can I go with rebuilt ones or brand new ford?

Thank you

Hi Steve,
If you have 4 wheel ABS, then I would use FORD or MOTORCRAFT rotors, if not use any good after-market rotor. Some after-market rotor companys don't put the ABS ring in the right place, causing ABS problems. Always use FORD OEM pads. Brake lines don't need to be replaced unless they are leaking. Calipers don't need changing unless you have uneven pad wear or they are hanging up causing a pull while you are braking. Use any kind of reman calipers if needed.

Answer
Hi Steve,
Check for uneven pad wear. Also pull rhe pins out of the caliper bridges and lube them (also causes uneven pad wear). You can use any after-market pads you want,if you don't mind alot of noise. Use Ford OEM pads for best results.
