Ford Repair: 87 5.0 efi....to 88 5.0 ho, induction system, speed density


Question
hey...i have an 87 f-150 4x4 5.0 and i have an 88 mustang with a 5.0 ho..
i need to know if i swap the old truck motor for  the mustang motor...and use my truck upper and lower and computer...will i still be able to get the rated 245hp that came with the roller motor...and will it run right with the different cam and all....
any help is greatly appreciated...thank you

  Yes, everything will directly swap over which is helpful since Mustang intake inlets face the passenger side and truck inlets face the driver's side.  I'd also hang on to all of the associated induction parts because I'm not exactly sure when mass air was introduced to F-150s, but Mustangs got it in '88 so if your truck is speed density it'd be best to use your computer and induction system just to be safe.  Also, make sure you keep your oil pan and bolt it up to the new motor since I don't think the Mustang's pan will work with an F-150.  As far as power, your computer doesn't use the same fuel and timing curves as a Mustang's computer.  The motors were actually rated closer to 205hp-215hp depending on the year and my guess is that with the truck intake and computer you'll lose at the most 10 or 15hp...nothing too major.  Hope this helps.
