Ford Repair: 62 Falcon wagon/ Fuel system problem, dream all day, fuel tank

Question
This car has had it's fuel tank drained and checked, fuel lines blown out,new fuel pump, filters and carb replaced. Some days it's purrs and starts right up.And will drive like a dream all day.Sometimes it will buck, stall when you drive it and be incredibly hard to restart.Fuel also drips out of carb during this time. This happens most often when car is warmed up and been driven, but I've had it happen when I start it in the morning, although less seldom than when hot.

Thanks for any advice,
John In Fla.

Answer
Mr. Tully,

It sounds like the float in your carb is sticking. If this is a one barrel carb, you also may be experiencing pre-detonation. You will need to add spacers under the carb because your intake manifold gets so hot it is boiling your gas, causing it to vaporize. This is a problem Ford had with early carbs. Hope that this helps and if you need further help, please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck.
