Ford Repair: Electrical System, mustang v6, solinoid

Question
My son and I are embarking on restoration project.  The target is a '67 Mustang V6 with no options that has been in my family since purchased.  The car has been sitting idle in a garage since 1998, never been started.  We tried to jump start the battery and the car would not crank.  Off to the auto parts store.  The parts person suggested that it could be the starter, so we got a rebuilt (fairly cheap).  Install it and the car would not crank.  Back to the parts store and this time we got the relay that he suggested could also be the problem.  After installing, we almost got the car to crank, but I thought it was taking too long so I turned it off.  Trying it again, the car was making the same noise now, as it did prior to replacing the above parts.  Sort of a buzzing sound.  We cannot get the started to crank by bypassing the relay switch, as we did before.  It appears that both of the parts are shorted out again.  Any ideas as to why we continue to short out these parts or why the car will not turn over?   Thank you in advance.

Michael

Answer
Mr. Camacho,

It sounds like you have a bad solinoid. Also check the battery cables, as they are probably old and the cable going from the solinoid to the starter. When youare cranking it over and these cables feel hot, they are bad and will need to be replaced. As for your buzzing noise, it sounds like the solinoid. If none of these suggestions olve your problem, please contact me again and we will go from there. Hope that thise helps and good luck.
