Ford Repair: 1996 ford explorer will run but will not idle, vacuum leaks, vacuum leak

My explorer wil start up but will die out immediatly when left at idle. It will rev and stay running if you keep revving.But will not idle This is a 4.0 auto 4x4. thanks,

It sounds like your idle-air control is out of adjustment or you have a vacuum leak. I would check at the throttle body or the intake manifold for the vacuum leak. The easiest way to check is to get some WD-40, have someone keep it idling and spray the WD at the base of these components are where the gasket is. If the idle goes up when you spray it there, you have a vacuum leak. Also check the rubber hoses on the motor for cracks or for disconnection, as these will also cause vacuum leaks.
