Ford Repair: replaceing a e.g.r. valve, bud bud, mechanical skills

I am a little out of the car loop on,the new ones my 1996 ford aspaire has a bad egr valve this is what i was told.1 They want 300.00 to fix it can this be right? 2 were on the motor is it located and is it hard to replace? 3 the test (40.00) points to this, could this be the only bad part? thanks bud

  As for the cost, it's not the best I've ever heard, but it's certainly not the worst.  As for it's location, I can't say for sure since my knowledge of Aspires isn't much more expansive than knowing what they look like.  The valve isn't on the motor...it's part of the emissions system so it will be connected by a tube or hose to the header.  It's not terribly difficult to replace if you have some basic mechanical skills and basic tools.  If they scanned the computer and there were other problems, the scan should've picked them up as well assuming that they're problems that will throw a trouble code.  Hope this helps.
