Ford Repair: water pump replacement, water pump replacement, ford mustang

Question
I'm trying to replace the water pump on my 1972 Ford Mustang and I seemed to have run into a snag.  I've removed the radiator, alternator and belt, and air conditioning belt.  After I removed the fan I couldn't figure out how to remove the pulley that's connected to the water pump.  The book I have just says to "remove fan and pulley", so I'm kind of at a loss for instructions.  Also, is the belt connected to that pulley a timing belt or what?  The car is supposed to have a timing chain so I'm not sure if it would have a timing chain and belt, or if it is simply a fan belt.  If it's a timing belt I won't mess with it, but if it's not then I'd like to know how to remove the pulley so I can unbolt the busted water pump and install the new one.

Thanks,
Josh

Answer
Josh-

You'll need a special tool...a pulley remover...to get that pulley off.  You can buy or rent one from just about any parts store.  As for the belt, it's just a drive belt.  When the engine's running that belt turns the pulley which turns the pump.  You'll also need to take that off before tackling the pulley.  The timing chain should be behind the cover that the water pump is bolted to/over.  Hope this helps.
