Ford Repair: Differential, chevy ii nova, clutch discs

Question
Ken:  I have a '62 Chevy II Nova with a '73 Ford pickup 9 in. rear end with 4.30 gears , coil-overs and ladder bars.  My question is:  What are the symptoms of a bad pinion bearing?  I have been hearing more howling noise than usual, even for a low gear ratio.  Normally, it occurred only when decelerating, but now it happens when on the throttle.  The gears are relatively new, 'bout 3 years old.  I just recently had new clutch discs installed in the Ford limited-slip, but nothing else.  Thanks for your advice.

first i would check to see if your low on gear oil.if thats okay jack up the rear of car with both wheels off ground, go under car and try to wiggle the drive shaft where it connects to the rear. if there is play your pinion seal or gear is going bad.also check for leaks that is a sure sign your seal is bad.hope this helps.
