Ford Repair: Shift-Kit, shift kits, transmission work

Question
Hello Steve,

i'm looking to have a better usage of my '93 2wd explorer auto transmission especially to avoid unnecessary wearing. The shift-kits are advertised to help on this way but as I've never tryed any shift-kit i would want your advise on this choice. I've found on www.expressautoparts.com/ this one ATP FK-7 [Trans. Improver Kit] Trans.: A4LD. Do you know how will my transmission work with this kit?

Thanks for your attention.

Answer
Guilherme-

While I didn't find that part number on the website, I can tell you that there are two kind of "shift kits".  One reroutes fluid through the valve body of the transmission to improve shifts as far as firmness, time, etc.  The other is for electronically controlled transmissions.  It's basically a plug-in that adjusts the stock programming and changes shift points, increases line pressure and so on.  Both produce pretty much the same result so long as you do go for a full valve body overhaul with a race-oriented kit.  Hope this helps.
