Ford Repair: head gasket, mercury sable, head gaskets

Question
I have a 1992 MERCURY SABLE GS that is constantly overheating. The temperature is high and even adding water and cooler to the radiator the temperature does not low. It has a water jacket as well since I noticed a strong odor and smoke coming out of the pipe tail. I think the head-gaskets are damaged. Is there a recall for this problem? Is there any solution other than fix the entire engine which would cost $1,500.00 (more than the value of the car)? Does the Thermalweld solution really work?

Answer
I dont know buddy.  It could just be the intake gasket that leaks and thats not as big a deal.  Eitherway it should be fixed, but if you keep driving it just keep plenty of water in it.  Those cooling system additives that stop leaks work pretty good, but they usually dont work a real long time.
