I have a 1997 Ford Ranger and was wondering if i would have much trouble putting a 302 engine in it?

That's actually a fairly common swap.  Once you get the swap parts for it, it's not too hard at all really.  The bulk of the work comes with modifying the wiring to work with a V8.  If they're still in business, Kaufmann Products (www.kaufmannproducts.com) used to make a ton of swap kit and if memory serves me one was for a 302 in a Ranger.  Hope this helps.

I'm just wondering what I should get an engine out of? and what year of vehicle I should be looking for. You think I should look at some bargain finders for old cars with 302's and buy one of them cuz i was reading that it would be best to get the original wiring harness for the engine?

Well, you'll have to get the original wiring harness and computer from whatever car you take the motor from unless you want to go carburated (and even then you'll probably need a few wiring modifications).  If it were me I'd try to snag a motor from a wrecked '89-'95 Mustang if you go fuel injected.  If you go with a carb then the years are pretty irrelevent (but I'd avoid anything between '72 and '81.  Hope this helps.
