Ford Repair: FORD V-6 ENGINE, pat pat, displacements

Question
Steve -

Do you know if the Ford 2.8 V-6 and the 2.9 V-6 are the same basic engine with a larger bore, etc.?  If so, are the basic parts interchangable?

Thanks

Pat

Answer
Pat-

My knowledge of 2.8L and 2.9L V6s is pretty limited as I haven't had many come across my desk over the years.  That said, it's been my experience that engines with displacements so close together are generally not compatible.  Take for instance the old 427s, 428s, and 429s.  They all sound very similar, but couldn't hardly be more different.  In contrast, the 302 and 351 are almost identicle in design but have very different diplacements.  So at face value I'd say they probably don't have much, if anything, in common.  Hope this helps.
