Ford Repair: rear drums, rear drums, rear brakes

Question
Jeff, my 2000 ford focus has 62,000 miles. I want to inspect the rear brakes. I cannot remove the drums. I understand that the shoes can interfere but that does not seem to be the case. What is the procedure for removing the drums? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Joe,
You need to remove the center cap with a small screwdriver and hammer. Then remove the center nut with a 30mm socket. The drum should then slip off. Don't be surprised if the rear shoe looks thin. They are only 3mm thick brand new. The front shoe is thicker than the rear, about 5mm new. At 62,000 they should not be worn out yet.
GOOD LUCK.

Jeff
