Ford Repair: Squealing Noise, ford explorer sport, power steering pump

Question
The belt on my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 4x2 (37,500 miles) has been making noise especially when it is wet outside and after a while it goes away. Now, the noise is accompanied by a continuous squeal regardless of accelerate or idle. And I hear something turning, which I did not hear before. It is aggravating to say the least. It is louder in the morning when I first drive then by the afternoon some of the level of squeal is gone but it is still there accompanied by the turning noise that I hear. Is this something that can stop my vehicle while I am driving. I am concerned. I just had an oil change about a month ago. The belt was fine then or so they told me.

It sounds like you just need to change the belt.  The squealing is the belt slipping on the pulleys which increases when you accelerate and, when turning, it takes more force to turn the power steering pump so that's why you hear it then as well.  Once the car gets warmed up the sound will decrease because the belt has also warmed up and, since it's rubber, it will grip better.  Hope this helps.
