Honda Repair: tire balance, tie rod ends, wheel weights

Question
QUESTION: my 94 Accord has a slight vibration at 70 in the steering wheel which I am wondering if the back tires could be the culprit?  My son said he was told there is a problem with the belts on the two back ones.  They where all balanced about 12000 miles ago so I wonder if I should just have the fronts balanced or think about replacing the rears if it annoys me enough?  The standard trans has a really low first gear which has more than once ended up scrubbing the tires on a quick takeoff when there is oncoming?
Thanks for your advice

ANSWER: Tires are a common cause of vibrations at high speeds. A good mechanic could tell you whether the wires inside the tire were broken. If the tires are the cause of the problem then you can probably see a funny wear pattern on them.

QUESTION: Apparently someone told my son the two back tires had a belt problem which I don't doubt, though they don't seem to be wearing unusually,  but I mainly wonder if that could cause the slight shimmy in the steering which if not caused by the rears  I would get the fronts balanced. If it's the rears that would be a waste of time.) Sorry if I didn't make that clear.  Thanks again.

Answer
Hmmm...that would be unlikely. I would check out the front tires carefully, also I would have them re-balanced just to be sure they are balanced correctly (sometimes the wheel weights fall off).

If the tires seem fine then start looking at things like tie rod ends and other suspension components.
