ANSWER: You didn't say whether the check engine light is on or not. That would be really helpful. Anyway, it seems that the problem was not the EGR sensor. Some things that might be causing your problem include:
ignition coils
spark plugs
plugged catalytic converter
bad timing components, etc.
There isn't much to go on here. You might want to get the codes checked to see if there are any there that aren't turning on the check engine light.
