Honda Repair: water pump, upper radiator hose, radiator cap

Question
QUESTION: 94 honda civic ex.. my question is..
can a bad water pump cause the upper radiator hose to have massive pressure causing it to over heat?>?

ANSWER: First of all the upper radiator hose should have a lot of pressure.
Second, pressure does not cause it to overheat. If anything high pressure would help to keep it from overheating.

A bad water pump can cause overheating. So can a bad thermostat, faulty cooling fans, low coolant level and several other things.

QUESTION: well, the resovoir tank is under pressure as well... and radiator cap is new, so is head gasket.... upper radiator hose...is it connected to the engine where the water comes from?

Answer
If the engine is overheating then it is normal for the reservoir to have pressure. If it is not overheating then the reservoir should not have much pressure. If it does then you need to check into how good of a seal the radiator cap has. If the radiator neck is deformed at all it can cause this problem.
The upper radiator hose is connected to the radiator and it goes from there to the engine. It connects to the engine via the thermostat housing (where the thermostat is located).
If you haven't already I'd start by replacing the thermostat. I always replace it anytime I do any type of major cooling system work.
