Honda Repair: Odometer, trip meter, honda accord

Question
QUESTION: The odometer and trip meter stopped working on my 94' Honda Accord.  Just wondering how much this should cost to fix??

ANSWER: There are several things that might be going on here. It could be a faulty speed sensor but if the check engine light is not on then that would rule out a speed sensor which would mean that it is most likely an instrument cluster connection problem or faulty speedometer.

The price for this fix will depend on what is diagnosed as the problem. You are probably looking at several hundred dollars, but that is a VERY rough estimate. I would have to know a lot more about this problem to give you a more accurate estimate.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Follow-up to original question. The odometer and trip meter stopped working on my '94 Honda. No engine light on. Problem has been diagnosed is that I would need a "speedometer head unit"  What would be approximate cost of this part and labor??  Thank you.

Answer
This sounds like it is probably the right diagnosis. The cost will depend on what type of parts you get. You might be able to find a used one that will work well for you. That would run in the $100-$150 range. Labor would be at least a couple of hours most likely. A new part would cost much more than that. I don't know the price of a new one right off hand. You would have to call the dealer in your area for that. I don't think they make aftermarket units so it would probably be a dealer only item.
